The Latvian Association of Architects (LAS) is the only professional organisation of architects in Latvia, uniting around 380 members – professional architects. LAS was founded in 1924, and its seat is in Riga, Torņa iela 11, in the Architects’ House.
LAS’s main areas of activity:
*overseeing professional guidelines and cooperating with state and local government institutions in developing industry laws and regulations;
*cooperating with related organisations in Latvia and abroad, information exchange and representation in international organisations of architects;
*supporting professional education, developing guidelines for the promotion of continuing education and lifelong learning in the professional environment;
*participating in the administration of the profession and overseeing the Certification Centre, which, as delegated by state institutions, examines and certifies architects’ professional competence for operation in Latvia;
*supporting architects’ professional activity by developing standards for architects’ practice and competitions, organising events and ensuring LAS representation in juries and expert committees, and promoting exchange of experience;
*improving the professional information base and fostering information circulation;
*promoting professional viewpoints and strengthening the status of the profession, ensuring representation in important advisory institutions and working groups, organising discussions, holding the Latvian Architecture Annual Expositions and other informative events;
*fostering the social life and support network of architects.
LAS’s activities are governed by the Association’s Statutes and the Architect’s Code of Ethics.
