Hersonisos port waterfront renovation

1st Distinction in open ADC

In the issue of the formation of the coastal front of the port of Hersonissos, arises the problem of the alteration of the natural landscape, public space and archaeological sites by tourist development.

Design objectives

Local communities & economies
Given that tourist development is the primary economic factor for the local economy and therefore cannot be limited, it is proposed to give an ephemeral character to the structures that house tourist uses on the coastal front, while at the same time highlighting the elements of the place, through paths and structures that will have a different, permanent character.

Relation of meaning between form & content / Integration of design in natural and urban landscape
A dialectical relationship is proposed between the ephemeral and the permanent and in the two aesthetic considerations that they represent at the level of design philosophy, materials, and color shades that they entail. Their differentiation is further expressed by an emphasis on constructions on the one hand and the layout of outdoor spaces on the other.

Integration of design in natural or urban landscape
Proposed design restores waterfront access to the sea

New space & form experience
Ephemeral structures proposed promote new waterfront experience
